What defines Commander?
Commander is Magic’s most popular multiplayer format, according to Wizards of the Coast. Its 100-card deck size, singleton deck-building rule, and 40-life starting total are the practical details behind the game-night gear players carry.

A format built around personal decks and shared tables.
Commander asks each player to build around a legendary creature, stay inside that card’s color identity, and bring a deck with no duplicate non-basic cards. The result is a format where deck identity matters as much as the game itself.
That format detail is part of why deck storage gets specific quickly. A player may need room for a sleeved 100-card deck, a protected commander, tokens, and the small accessories that travel to the table every week.
